B-BBEE Compliance Report

Thebe Investment Corporation has bought a 17.7% stake Accéntuate which boosted Accéntuate’s black empowerment status from about 26% to 30% and provided it with a strategic black economic empowerment partner.

Thebe Investment Corporation has emerged as a truly South African enterprise that remains true to its vision of creating products and services for the needs of our people. Thebe believes that our wealth and our values are measured by the extent to which we serve our communities.

Thebe’s approach to business is both to develop green fields businesses and to invest in existing concerns where they can unlock the potential for growth. Thebe Investment Corporation is a broad based black empowerment investment company that has a mixed portfolio of investments across a range of industries. It is 51.3% owned by the Batho Batho Trust, a community-based organisation that economically uplifts previously disadvantaged people, 21.9% by and employee share scheme and 26.9% by ABSA Capital and Sanlam.

Dr Motlatla successfully established the first Black Business Consortium in 1994, namely Malesala Holdings Proprietary Ltd and holds the position of Executive Chairman. He also serves on the Board of Directors of various other companies. Some of which include; Cross Roads Distribution (Pty) Ltd, Efic (Pty) Ltd, Floorworx (Pty) Ltd, Safic (Pty) Ltd and Safic BEE (Pty) Ltd.

To date Accéntuate has achieved some remarkable BEE successes, which include:

Successful establishment and growth of approximately 250 ‘green field’ SMME’s with an annual collective turnover in excess of R70 million.
Creation of in excess of 2 500 jobs
Establishment of the Black Economic Empowerment Cleaning Association (BEECA)
Training of all above companies as well as employees in all areas of business
Received a Ministerial Award for the contribution towards the African Education Renaissance
Development of a proprietary model for SMME development

We are committed to a ‘triple bottom line approach’ contributing positively to the following areas;

A generic model which has been developed for the successful establishment of sustainable SMME’s (Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises) We create opportunities for emerging ABE’s (Affirmative Business Enterprises) to flourish in a dynamic and competitive world without discriminatory hindrance. Through the companies OHSAS 18001 certification, we also dedicate ourselves to the health and safety of our employees as well as those of our clients.

Macro-economic driving forces enable us to regulate long term growth and sustainability within the industrial manufacturing arena. Empowerment is viewed as a process where inequality is redressed and all South African’s find equal opportunity to participate within an active economic environment. Thus, though our Black Economic Enterprises and its exclusive SMME Development model, we are able to play a leading role in the facilitation of these economic transformations.

Through good corporate governance principles we are consistently committed to the preservation of the Environment. All practices are carried out within a framework of responsible care to save our planet and actively make a difference within communities. We have a range of Environmentally Accepted products and have been nominate consecutively by the Mail and Guardian, as the most environmentally aware chemical safety organisation in South Africa.
